As a journalist in today's ever changing music industry, coming across new faces is as second nature as breathing. The amounts of new music, coupled with newly emerging artists, in the ocean of genres now available to consumers, are as close to infinite as ever. That being said, there's a level of refreshment that comes with seeing familiar faces redefining themselves in eloquent, and tasteful display. This extraordinary opportunity came as I happened to be present at The Writer's Block Studios just north of Atlanta Georgia one evening, as I was allowed to bare witness to what I believe to be a classic in the making. The artists were KingDarius TheGreat, whom I remember as the individual who ushered in the digital era of music, and the beautifully poised Hayzell B, known for her passionate delivery, and angelic essence in terms of presence in song form. Me, being familiar with both artists, but unfamiliar of their history of working together, I must say what I witnessed was a majestic interaction between the two, as they bounced ideas off of one another, took lead, took direction, added, and subtracted, until the perfect blend of Hip-Hop and R&B took form on a song titled Self Love (Re-Up). Beyond the powerful, much needed message this song entails, I, as a witness to the creative process, can define the outcome of this record in two words. Professionalism, and Chemistry. I definitely see this record becoming one for the ages, and looking forward to it's second quarter release in 2023.
I truly enjoyed every moment of this studio session and want to give a special thanks to both KingDarius TheGreat and Hayzell B for allowing me to witness such a magnificent process unfold! Will be adding to my playlists immediately upon release! Also, thank you to The Writer's Block Studios for having me that evening. Perfect Timing!
